One in five American adults have at least one kind of disability, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released in July 2015.
The researchers defined a disability as a self-reported difficulty in one or more of five areas: vision, cognition, mobility, self-care or independent living.
This section provides specific information about people with disabilities and how best to relate to them. It also has a list of groups that provide direct assistance to people with disabilities, along with Michigan and national disability resources. Although these lists are not exhaustive or prioritized, they do have some helpful resource material. Michigan Agencies, Associations, and Organizations, for instance, lists disability groups in Michigan so you can access groups that focus on a specific disability from it.
